Hans Christian Andersen stories
Originally seen on British television, this two-part filmed biography of famed Danish fantasist Hans Christian Andersen bears more resemblance to the truth than the 1952 musical with Danny Kaye, but not by much. Once again, Andersen, as played by Kieran Bew, is depicted as handsome and charming, whereas the real Hans was homely and graceless, truly the "ugly duckling" of which he wrote so eloquently. According to this film, 15 year old Hans pays a visit to a gypsy fortune teller, who prophesizes that "There will come a day when all of Copenhagen will be lit up in your honor." Our hero's inevitable journey from the village of Odense to the capital of Denmark brings him in contact with wealthy Jonas Collin (James Fox), who bankrolls the youthful writer's career. Though Hans falls in love wit...
Created for the National Opera & Ballet of Sofia, Bulgaria, this two-part performance featured two full-length ballets based on Hans Christian Andersen's well-loved fairytales: The Red Shoes and The Emperor's New Clothes. The pieces featured composite scores of Grieg and J. S. Bach respectively, arranged by Martin Ward. Costumes and sets were designed by Bruce French with lighting design by David Kidd. The music was recorded by musicians of the Royal Opera House Orchestra and is available for download.

PAULL (1812 - 1888) A collection of some of Hans Christian Andersen's works. He is a Danish author and poet most famous for his fairy tales. Summary by Kristingj. Genre(s): Myths, Legends & Fairy Tales Language: English (FULL Audiobook)
In this beautiful story, a princess comes to the rescue of her brothers who have been turned into six swans. A vow of silence leaves her unable to defend herself against the most terrible injustice. She has to contend with not only a wicked stepmother, but a wicked mother-in-law too – which is surely less than fair, even by the standards of fairy tales. This tale was first published on 2 October 1838 as the first installment in Andersen's Fairy Tales Told for Children by C. A. Reitzel in Copenhagen, Denmark. It has been adapted to various media including ballet, television, and film... Audio: Storynory
